Officer Reports:
Helen spoke with Nancy Schlichting and got contact information for Gail Warden. She will be contacting him this week.
St. John Conference Center has days open. Ron was thinking that a Thursday would be good. We agreed that a one day event would be best, rather than a two day event. Helen suggested that we perhaps have a dinner
Gail would be keynote speaker as the anchor in the morning. The Minnesota chapter and the Indiana
chapter both expressed interest in doing conferences together. Also the Ohio chapters. Randi Thomas, Corporate VP at HealthLink
spoke with Helen. She is working with
Dave Roberts in Advocacy. Helen thought
she would review the conference CD and review the web site to see who else we
could engage. Randi offered to help set
things up.
When Helen contacts Gail Warden this week, she will work to get additional contacts from him.
The themes of The National Healthcare Infrastructure and Funding IT will be the focus of our conference. We could look at getting some of the big names from the vendors to talk about the level of investment required to get these kinds of initiatives developed.
Also, someone from a foundation might be an interesting addition. Newt Gingrich could also be approached regarding legislative initiatives in the House or Senate. Gail could perhaps contact Tommy Thompson or a staff member of his.
Helen talked to Carl Dvorak from Epic and got some ideas from him, as well as others.
We can use this as our advocacy conference, which is an obligation that we have.
We were looking at Wednesday – Friday, May 12, 13 or 14 or May 19-20. Friday, May 21 is already booked at St. John Conference Center as are the 11th, and 28th. We can look into June as well if needed.
We are looking at doing a keynote for 60 minutes, panel for 90 minutes, then repeat something similar after lunch. We should also contact Minnesota and Indiana to see if they have a level of interest. Helen thinks they might be looking for something high-level.
We would be including individuals at the national level and perhaps corporate level. The initiatives are being addressed at these and at the private level. Much of the legislation pending is similar. Gingrich stressed that things get done this year, fast and at the ambulatory level.
Many cannot afford these solutions, so this information would be helpful. Jennifer should be able to help with research information. Dave Roberts has offered to help, but would be good to include him on a panel.
Helen and Alicia gave an update on what occurred at the Chapter Leadership conference in Orlando. They and Rick W. attended at various times.
Helen asked Gary to follow up with Ken to finalize the payments from the previous conference.
ACTION ITEMS: Helen will follow up with Gail Warden.
Alicia mentioned that HISA was still considering becoming part of HIMSS, but that they were going to talk about it as a group.
ACTION ITEM: Ken needs to send the check to HISA for their part of the earnings from the Winter conference.
Gary knows the General Manager of St. John Conference Center and offered his assistance if we need anything from them. Ron thanked Gary and noted that St. John was very kind and gave us very reasonable rates.
No one had any additional business.

Report from HIMSS National Conference, see above.
Discussion of the planning for the program began during the President’s report and was denoted above.
Committee Chair/Regional Advisory Council Reports:
MI-HIMSS Supermarket. This would be a mini-exposition of Michigan vendors. We would group by technology, which is where the Supermarket concept comes from—for example, CPOE vendors are in one area, EMR vendors in another, Security is in another, etc. We would bring in vendors and allow them to present separately, perhaps even a technology face-off, as well as provide the expo. We expressed some concern regarding HIMSS National feelings about this type of event.
